Surface Preparation

Before installing the tape, the surface should be clean and most importantly dry. Even though the tape can withstand constant exposure to water, it will need to be dry during the installation process. Make sure that the surface is also free from other debris and contaminants which could affect how well the adhesive works. You can use our IPA cleaner but avoid any type of lighter fluid, petrol or methylated spirits because this will affect the adhesive due to the greasy layer that they leave behind. The surface temperature should also be higher than 10°C.

Sealing of Porous Surfaces

If you are applying the tape to a porous surface, you will need to ensure that the surface is properly sealed before you install the tape. If you don’t seal it properly, water can attack the adhesive and prevent it from working properly. The best product to use for this task is to use a Toluene primer, applying a very thin coat to the surface using a paintbrush. Leave to dry before installing the tape.

Take the length of tape that you would like to install and press the adhesive firmly onto the required surface, as you do so peel back the liner to ensure that the tape is secured in place. Ensure that the tape isn’t too taut. Once applied, smooth the tape down ensuring that the entire surface area is properly flattened down, so it fixes itself to the surface. A decorating roller would work well for this. The final step in the process is to use the Edge Fix product to seal the edges of the tape. This will prolong its lifespan.
